On 28 March 2009, Everest 2009 Expedition will fly from Marseille to the Himalayas in order to make the ascent of highest mountain in the world via south-west ridge in the footprints of first climbers Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa in 1953. This adventure will make public aware of Alzheimer’s disease and will suggest donation from public to research against this plague but also for the patients’accompaniment with FRANCE ALZHEIMER. For the first time a mother and her son go together up the slopes of Everest, which rises to 8848 meters above the ocean. They want to symbolize the involvement of all generations needed in this fight against the disease. The rope will symbolize the strong familial link who can defeat this disease. The expedition will be relayed on this website, live from the roof of the world. Visitors can track its progress: trek through the Khumbu Valley,the heart of Sherpa’s country, Base Camp, acclimatization to high altitude on the mountains surrounding Mount Everest until final assault to the summit. Visitors can also participate in this adventure with expedition’s blog. The website will also help associations fighting against the disease under the banner of France Alzheimer and promote donations online. Already on this website, you will find expedition’s details, dates, trails, training, members... You can discover the expedition with its many nationalities and also follow all preparation for both men and gear. Finally, many media want to introduce you to the scenes of this great adventure. A page is dedicated to Alzheimer's disease to appreciate the courageous work of Association France Alzheimer and explains the important issues of fight against this disease but also progress achieved in science to detect early pathology.
